Write a Letter to the facility’s contractor, LiRo
The LiRo Group has been contracted by the City of Buffalo to design and construct the proposed police training facility. This project is deeply flawed and widely unpopular in the Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood and across Buffalo.
Talking points:
This project is widely unpopular across the city and beyond, with 2,348 Buffalo residents signing a petition opposing the facility. Thousands of Buffalonians came together in just over two weeks to speak out against this project.
Over 100 residents in the Broadway-Fillmore community, where the facility is proposed to be located, have signed a second petition opposing the facility. We should listen to our neighbors about what will happen in their own backyard.
Broadway-Fillmore residents have recently filed a lawsuit against the City due to the project’s noncompliance with a number of local, state, and federal regulations.
The appropriate environmental impact studies have not been conducted for this project, notably no mention of the likely lead pollution
The property was once part of a city-owned park - this project would be in violation of requirements that parkland be stewarded for community use
The zoning amendment passed by the Common Council only covers construction, not use of a firing range
The city also allowed the facility to be used for a police training course in May of 2025, when it was still zoned as a residential area
The bond resolutions were consolidated over multiple years, all of which did not specify where the facility would be built. How can we approve a shooting range and urban training facility without knowing the details?
