July 29th: Zoning Amendment Overview

7-28-25 Common Council Legislative Committee on Zoning Amendment for 379 Paderewski

TLDR:

Buffalo Common Council (BCC) addressed a rezoning application for 379 Paderewski Drive intended to change the site from “residential” to “mixed-use” zoning.

  • BCC did not mention it would be for a police training facility. Nowakowski had no comment.

  • Chris Hawley (City of Buffalo Senior Strategic Planner, representative for the Central Terminal Neighborhood Association) claimed neighborhood support for the facility and a larger local police presence.

    • Meanwhile, several Central Terminal residents signed off on a statement saying otherwise.

  • Some community members spoke out against the amendment and the facility, citing:

- Lack of transparency from the city

- Lack of community input

- Concerns about cost

- Lack of compliance with Green Code & SEQRA
